Salary: Not specified Experience: , experience in a professional environment, strong writing and editorial skills, interest in international law The American Society of International Law (ASIL) is currently accepting applications for the Gabrielle Kirk McDonald BASIL Fellowship, a program named after the distinguished jurist and former Honorary President of the Society. This fellowship is supported by generous contributions from members of BASIL (Blacks of the American Society of International Law), an organization dedicated to promoting and supporting Black international lawyers, jurists, and academics in the United States. ASIL, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, educational membership organization, was founded in 1906 and chartered by Congress in 1950. Its mission is to foster the study of international law and promote the establishment and maintenance of international relations based on law and justice. ASIL holds Category II Consultative Status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a constituent society of the American Council of Learned Societies. The purpose of the ASIL International Law Fellowship Program is to provide young legal professionals with the opportunity to gain additional skills in international legal research, legal education program management, and event planning. Fellows will also have the chance to attend various internationally themed virtual events organized by ASIL and its partners. Additionally, Fellows will work with their supervisory staff to identify and pursue areas of their professional development that can be enhanced during the fellowship period. In addition to working with ASIL, Fellows will also provide support to BASIL. This may include designing and supporting programs to increase the number of Black students and lawyers interested in international law, writing and reporting on matters relevant to Black international lawyers, and assisting with the development of a directory of Blacks in international law. To be considered for this fellowship, applicants must have a graduate degree in law (. or .), strong writing and editorial skills, and experience working in a professional environment. Preference will be given to those with experience working on a journal and coursework or work experience in international law. The ability to work independently and successfully implement projects from start to finish is also required. Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, unedited writing sample, and two letters of recommendation to with "Law Fellow" in the subject line. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The desired start date and current location should also be included in the application materials. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
