Job Title: Staff Attorney for Veteran Advocacy Project Organization: Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) Service Area: 68 counties in Texas (excluding El Paso) Salary: Commensurate with experience Position Type: Full-time Duties and Responsibilities: The Staff Attorney for the Veteran Advocacy Project at TRLA will play a crucial role in providing extended civil services to veterans in a wide range of legal matters. Some of the key duties and responsibilities for this position include: - Evaluate clients' claims and assess civil legal remedies - Provide direct representation to clients in all stages of litigation and in all forms of advocacy - Provide counsel to individuals seeking civil legal assistance - Establish and maintain relationships with community partners to ensure integrated services and address systemic barriers facing veterans - Support civil legal services for veterans throughout the 68-county TRLA service area - Participate, organize, and lead education and outreach efforts to community about legal issues confronted by low-income veterans and their families Qualifications and Preferences: TRLA is looking for candidates who are dedicated to providing justice for those who need it the most. Some of the qualifications and preferences for this position include: - JD from an accredited university - Must be licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take the next available Texas bar exam - Dedication to and experience in serving low-income populations - Experience working with veterans - Experience working with community services/partners - Fluent in English and Spanish, written and spoken Compensation and Benefits: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and also includes an excellent fringe benefits package.
