Staff Attorney - Veteran Advocacy Project The candidate will provide extended civil services to veterans in a wide range of civil legal matters including housing, probate, benefits, consumer, employment, homelessness, and family law. Provide direct legal services to those who are eligible, and will collaborate closely with community partners, including veteran service organizations, Department of Veteran Affairs medical facilities, and service providers for veterans living in homelessness. Evaluate clients' claims and assess civil legal remedies. Provide direct representation to clients in all stages of litigation and in all forms of advocacy. Provide counsel to individuals seeking civil legal assistance. Establish and maintain relationships with community partners to ensure integrated services and address systemic barriers facing veterans. Support civil legal services for veterans throughout the 68-county service area. Participate, organize, and lead education and outreach efforts to community about legal issues confronted by low-income veterans and their families. Must have a JD from accredited university and be licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take the next available Texas Bar exam. Dedication to and experience in serving low-income populations is required. Experience working with veterans is needed. Experience working with community services/partners is essential. Should be fluent in English and Spanish, written and spoken.
