What You Need to Know:

We are seeking a Counsel to join our Claim Legal department. This is a remote, hybrid position that can be located anywhere in the state of New York. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and collaborative team of legal professionals and make an impact on the success of our company.
The Counsel will be responsible for handling a caseload of predominantly low to moderate complexity and will have the opportunity to use their legal expertise and litigation skills to deliver optimal results for Travelers' insured customers.

What You Will Be Doing:

Develop and apply effective trial skills and techniques to litigate cases to verdict.
Conduct legal research and demonstrate strong and persuasive legal writing and presentation skills.
Supervise research projects delegated to Associate Counsel and paralegals.
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
Attend court events and other appointments independently.
Learn and understand Claim and client expectations and provide recommendations and case analysis.
Build and maintain strong internal and external client and business partner relationships.
Utilize support staff and technology effectively.
Adhere to best practices in file handling.
Travel as required to meet business needs.
Provide advice and training to Claim partners and clients.
Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Have:

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
Minimum of one year of litigation practice or prior legal experience.
Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required.
Strong research, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
Ability to analyze legal issues with minimal supervision.
Appreciation for, and commitment to, delivering high-quality legal work.
Ability to work collaboratively with team members and others.
Personal commitment to professional development and continued technical skills development.
Valid driver's license required depending on location.
