Summary:

GEICO, one of the nation's largest and fastest-growing auto insurers, is seeking a Privacy Counsel to join their Office of General Counsel in Chevy Chase, MD. This hybrid role will require 3 days working onsite and offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities:

- Provide legal advice and guidance to the CISO and other company stakeholders on privacy, cybersecurity, and data-protection laws.
- Work with internal clients to ensure compliance with data-protection and privacy regulations.
- Assist the cybersecurity team with responding to privacy incidents, cyber incidents, and data breaches.
- Develop and implement privacy policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate potential privacy risks and provide solutions for sales, underwriting, marketing, and claims.
- Identify data-protection issues for new products, processes, and technologies and assist in addressing those risks.
- Stay up-to-date on relevant privacy and data-protection legislative and regulatory changes.
- Support Supplier Management with privacy aspects of vendor onboarding and management.
- Provide guidance for data management and mapping.
- Offer other legal support for the Office of General Counsel as needed.

Qualifications:

- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in at least one . jurisdiction.
- 5+ years of experience practicing law, with at least 3 years focused on privacy issues.
- Deep understanding and experience with . federal and state data-protection laws.
- Strong understanding of technology and ability to communicate with both business units and IT/cybersecurity engineers.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
- Proficiency in managing multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders.
- Privacy certification such as CIPP is a plus.
- Vested time and longevity in majority or all of current and previous positions held is a must.

- Must be able to work onsite in the Chevy Chase, MD office 3 days a week.
