Job Segment: Attorney, Law, Legal, Administrative, Compliance, Legal Services The Florida Commission on Human Relations is seeking a Senior Attorney to join their Legal Unit. This position is responsible for representing the Commission in civil litigation, administrative proceedings, and other legal matters related to enforcing the state’s civil rights laws. The Senior Attorney will also provide legal advice and conduct research on various legal issues related to employment discrimination, retaliation, public accommodations, and fair housing. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background in research and writing, as well as advanced knowledge of Florida and Federal civil rights statutes, case law, and standards. They will also have experience litigating in administrative hearings or court, handling civil rights issues, and managing a large caseload. Additionally, the candidate should have a Juris Doctor degree and be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar, with at least two years of professional experience in law, legal research, or teaching law. This position is eligible for telework, and the salary for this position starts at $61,. Key Responsibilities: - Represent the Florida Commission on Human Relations in legal proceedings, including civil litigation, administrative hearings, and court proceedings. - Conduct legal research and provide advice on legal issues related to employment discrimination, retaliation, public accommodations, and fair housing. - Review and analyze evidence and investigative reports to determine if statutory violations have occurred. - Draft legal documents, including determinations and proposed final orders, for review and approval by senior legal staff. - Provide legal training on various subjects related to civil rights and discrimination. Qualifications: - Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. - Member in good standing with the Florida Bar. - At least two years of professional experience in law, legal research, or teaching law. - Advanced knowledge of Florida and Federal civil rights statutes, case law, and standards. - Experience litigating in administrative hearings or court. - Experience handling civil rights issues. - Experience managing a large caseload. - Excellent research and writing skills. - Strong communication and presentation skills. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
