The Legal Aid Society, a leading civil legal services organization, is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Director of Economic Equities Project to join our team. This opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of New York City residents while working alongside a talented and passionate team of attorneys, paralegals, and casehandlers. As the Director of Economic Equities, you will have the opportunity to lead and supervise multiple projects focused on consumer law, low-income taxpayer assistance, foreclosure prevention, and community development.

Responsibilities:

- Supervise and manage staff attorneys, paralegals, and volunteers in the Consumer Law Project
- Oversee the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, Foreclosure Prevention and Home Equity Preservation Project, and Community Development Project
- Provide representation in state and federal administrative and court proceedings
- Monitor client service and maintain high standards of representation
- Coordinate intake and develop legal strategies
- Assist with implementing and reporting on programs
- Respond to client, staff, and community concerns
- Foster teamwork and staff accountability
- Develop and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, advocates, government agencies, and elected officials
- Conduct community education, training, and outreach
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

- Minimum of five years of legal practice with a specialization in consumer law preferred
- Experience litigating in various forums
- Excellent litigation, oral, and written advocacy skills
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and civil legal services
- Admission to NYS Bar
- Supervisory and management experience preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Commitment to exploring alternative approaches to legal practice
- Ability to work in a collaborative team model
- Pro bono, government, public service, small business, and academic experience will be considered
- Proficiency in languages other than English is desirable

Salary Information:

- Salary range/salary: $148,960
