Job Type: Full-time Salary: $42, to $63, /year The Home Ownership Protection Program (HOPP) Paralegal position is a full-time opportunity with the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York (LASMNY). The paralegal will work within the Home Ownership Protection Program (HOPP) to provide legal support to individuals facing foreclosure of their home. This is a great opportunity for someone with a passion for social justice and a commitment to serving low-income community members. Some key responsibilities of the HOPP Paralegal position include: • Communicating effectively and efficiently with clients, either over the phone or in person. • Interviewing and screening clients facing mortgage or tax foreclosure, assessing the status of their case, and preparing case summaries. • Explaining the timeline of foreclosure proceedings to clients and triaging cases to the managing attorney for assignment. • Tracking mortgage and tax foreclosure cases and providing regular status reports to the managing attorney. • Completing loss mitigation applications for mortgage foreclosure cases under the direction of the managing attorney. • Maintaining accurate records and statistics for timely reporting. • Assisting with tasks related to grant reporting. • Preparing, organizing, storing, and retrieving case files. • Assisting with trial preparation. • Collaborating professionally with colleagues, judges, opposing counsel, court personnel, community members, and other stakeholders. • Demonstrating a commitment to professional growth in diverse areas of law. • Engaging in outreach and education efforts to reach community members, advocates, and service providers. • Attending and participating in meetings and trainings as requested. • Complying with all Legal Services Corporation (LSC) and LASMNY policies, procedures, and grant-based reporting requirements. • Performing responsibilities and duties as assigned by the supervisor based on department needs and requirements. The ideal candidate for this position will have a Bachelor's or Associate's degree, a paralegal certificate, or equivalent education and work experience. Prior office experience, preferably in a legal environment, is also required. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to serving low-income community members and be proficient in Microsoft Office or related software and computerized legal research. Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus, and travel may be required for this position. The estimated salary range for this position is $42,250 - $63,378, dependent on experience.
