We are actively looking for an Education & Municipal Law Attorney to join our dynamic team in either the Grand Rapids, MI or Lansing, MI office. This position requires an attorney with experience working for public schools and other educational institutions. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and organized, and will possess a solid work ethic. All candidates must either be currently licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan or eligible for admission without examination.



Job Description

The Education & Municipal Law Attorney will be responsible for:


  • Providing legal advice and counsel to clients on a variety of legal matters pertaining to public schools and other educational institutions.

  • Providing legal advice and counsel to clients on a variety of legal matters pertaining to municipal law.

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, leases, and other legal documents.

  • Conducting legal research and writing legal memoranda.

  • Representing clients in court, before administrative agencies, and in other legal proceedings.

  • Conducting due diligence investigations.

  • Managing litigation matters.

  • Providing advice on matters involving compliance with state and federal laws.

  • Providing advice on matters involving personnel issues.

  • Providing advice on matters involving public records and open meetings.

  • Providing legal advice and counsel to clients on a variety of other legal matters.



Requirements


  • Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school.

  • Experience working for public schools and other educational institutions.

  • Experience with municipal law.

  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

  • Currently licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan or eligible for admission without examination.
