Paralegal Intern – Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) Salary: Unpaid internship Job title: Paralegal Intern Experience: Students pursuing a paralegal certification is a plus Department: Pro Bono Programs Organization: Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) Location: Baltimore, MD H1: Make a Difference and Gain Practical Legal Experience with MVLS H2: Join our Team as a Paralegal Intern Founded in 1981, Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) is the oldest and largest pro bono legal services organization in Maryland, providing free civil legal assistance to underrepresented Marylanders. As a Paralegal Intern, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in need while gaining practical legal experience. Responsibilities: - Review applications for legal assistance and assist with case processing for low-income clients. - Conduct phone intake with clients to identify potential legal issues and gather necessary information. - Work closely with MVLS staff attorneys and paralegals to assign and close cases for volunteer attorneys. - Accompany staff attorneys to court hearings (varies based on semester). - Participate in drafting legal research and creating self-help materials for self-represented litigants. - Assist with additional resource information for clients. Qualifications: - Pursuing a paralegal certification is a plus. - Interest in public interest law is a plus. Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Work Schedule: - Fall/Spring internships require a minimum of 10 hours per week, during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM). - Summer internships are full-time, Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM.
