Experience Information:

Minimum 5 years of experience in public utility regulation through the private practice of law, within the federal or state government, or on Capitol Hill.

Position Overview:

The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) is seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel to join their Policy Department. This position will be responsible for providing legal support and guidance on energy and environmental issues, as well as representing NARUC to various external groups and government agencies. The Assistant General Counsel will report to the General Counsel and work closely with NARUC members, committees, and staff to develop and implement strategic goals and activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide staff support to NARUC energy committees and other committees as needed
- Represent NARUC to various energy-related bodies and organizations
- Support and advise NARUC members on energy issues
- Collaborate with NARUC leadership and staff to develop long- and short-term goals and strategies
- Promote NARUC as a leading source of expertise on utility issues
- Provide legal advice on strategic policy development and other legal matters
- Monitor energy-related developments at the federal level
- Serve as a NARUC representative to external groups and agencies when needed
- Support and attend NARUC conferences and assist with the resolution process

Minimum Requirements:

- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college or university
- Member of the DC Bar or eligible to waive into the DC Bar
- Minimum 5 years of experience in public utility regulation
- Located in the Washington, . area or able to commute for events and meetings
- Experience working in a membership association or nonprofit environment preferred
- Extensive knowledge of public utility regulation, with a focus on energy and environmental issues
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
- Willingness to travel domestically for more than 15 days per year
- Ability to work collaboratively with NARUC staff and members
- Professional contacts in the industry and government highly desired
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and video conferencing platforms
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
