Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV) is a non-profit organization that provides free legal assistance to low-income individuals and families in Northern Virginia. We are currently seeking a Litigation Support Paralegal to join our team and assist our Family Law staff attorneys in providing equal justice and advocacy for victims of crime. This is a hybrid position, based in either our Fairfax or Alexandria office, and offers a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare insurance, retirement plan with company contribution, and flexible work options. - Essential functions:
- Assist attorneys with initial client interviews and prepare necessary forms and documents
- Maintain communication and educate clients throughout the legal process
- Obtain records, review questionnaires, draft pleadings, letters, and other legal documents
- Conduct factual investigations, including interviewing witnesses and obtaining evidence
- Conduct legal research
- Organize and maintain client files
- Assist with all aspects of representation, including analyzing and summarizing documents and preparing evidence for hearings and trials
- Conduct outreach and community legal education
- Provide appropriate referrals
- Attend meetings and stay updated on relevant professional materials
- Maintain knowledge of relevant legal areas
- Other duties as assigned
- Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest work and assisting low-income individuals
- Experience working with domestic and sexual violence survivors preferred
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and work with multiple attorneys and clients
- Comfort with computers and willingness to learn case management software
- Bilingual ability (English and either Spanish, Amharic, Arabic, or Dari/Farsi) required
- Prior legal experience preferred
- Associate degree or higher and/or paralegal certificate strongly preferred
