A law firm seeks an experienced attorney to join its well-regarded land use and municipal law team in Seattle. This role involves providing strategic legal guidance on complex land use, planning, and municipal matters under Washington State law. The ideal candidate will have significant experience advising clients on regulatory compliance, administrative proceedings, and judicial appeals, as well as a proven ability to navigate intricate legal frameworks and develop creative solutions.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on land use and municipal issues, including compliance with Washington State regulations.
  • Interpret and advise on statutes such as the Growth Management Act (GMA), Planning Enabling Act, Local Project Review Statute (ch. RCW), Shoreline Management Act (SMA), and related environmental review under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA).
  • Represent clients in local and state administrative proceedings, including hearings before:
    • Hearing Examiners
    • City and County Councils
    • Shorelines Hearings Board
    • Pollution Control Hearings Board
    • Growth Management Hearings Board
  • Handle related judicial appeals under the Administrative Procedures Act and the Land Use Petition Act.
  • Collaborate with the broader land use team to develop and execute legal strategies that align with clients’ goals.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in land use, municipal law, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Washington State planning and land use statutes, including administrative and judicial appeals processes.
  • Proven ability to work in both advisory and litigation contexts, effectively managing multiple cases and priorities.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the Washington State Bar.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law in Washington State is required.

  • Strong advocacy and oral presentation abilities.
