Job Overview: An esteemed immigration law firm is seeking a dedicated Immigration Attorney to join its team in Woodbridge, VA. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience in immigration law, specifically in asylum applications and petitions for individuals seeking to remain in the United States. This role requires a strong commitment to immigrants' rights, superior legal research and writing skills, and the ability to effectively manage litigation matters.
Location:
Duties:
- Conduct comprehensive legal research to support case preparation, utilizing tools such as Lexis-Nexis
- Draft briefs, motions, affidavits, asylum petitions, and other immigration benefit applications (TPS, DACA, Cancellation of Removal, citizenship, and residency)
- Represent clients in Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and federal courts, including the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals
- Advise clients on legal rights and obligations across various immigration matters
- Gather evidence, interview witnesses, and develop case strategies for litigation
- Stay informed on changes to immigration laws and regulations that may impact clients’ cases
- Collaborate with other attorneys and support staff to ensure the provision of comprehensive legal services
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the state bar
- At least 1 year of experience in immigration law, particularly in removal defense and related petitions
- Strong analytical and legal research skills
- Proficient in drafting legal documents, including briefs, motions, and petitions
- Excellent negotiation and client communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
- Fluency in Spanish is required
