LSE is a statewide non-profit organization that has been providing free legal services to older people and advocating for policies and laws that are consistent with our mission for fifty ; LSE is committed to ensuring that all older people in Maine – of any race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, class, or background -- are secure in meeting their basic needs, including housing, health care, nutrition, and safety. Our Public Policy Advocate’s key responsibilities include identifying and analyzing policy issues impacting the legal rights of older people; identifying policy solutions for identified problems; and developing and implementing advocacy strategies that will make those solutions a reality. We anticipate that much of the Public Policy Advocate’s work will require interaction with state government and participation in the legislative process. As required by law, our Public Policy Advocate will register as a lobbyist with the Maine Ethics Commission. In the course of this work, they will review all legislation, rulemaking and other proposed policy changes and identify legal issues that will impact the ability of older people to meet their basic needs.   The Public Policy Advocate will work remotely from a home office but must live within a reasonable distance from Augusta to allow for frequent travel to the area. The preferred candidate will have at least two years of experience doing public policy ; Applicants must hold a Juris Doctor degree. While full-time is preferred applications for part-time work will be ; Starting range $73,000 to $86,000 for fulltime, depending on the amount of relevant public policy and legal experience.
