Paralegal – Legal Assistance for Victimized Adults (LAVA) Project at Indiana Legal Services, Inc. ILS is a statewide, not-for-profit organization that provides free legal services to eligible clients in civil cases through 8 branch offices. LAVA Project is a statewide project funded by a grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute to provide direct legal representation to older adults and disabled adults who are victims of crime. Location: All Indiana counties served by the LAVA Project, with a preference for candidates in the South Bend area. Position: Full-time paralegal. Job Summary: The paralegal will support attorneys in providing high-quality legal representation and advice to eligible clients, as well as assist with client intake and outreach events. Responsibilities: - Assist LAVA Project attorneys with civil cases - Draft legal documents and conduct research - Complete intakes for the LAVA Project - Provide victim-centered, trauma-informed services - Conduct outreach to other agencies and maintain positive relationships with community partners - Monitor and complete grant reporting requirements - Work in a team with the LAVA Project staff Qualifications: - Excellent communication skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Word and ability to learn new software quickly - Team-oriented and able to work under pressure - Experience working with low-income and vulnerable populations preferred - College degree and paralegal certification preferred - Available transportation and ability to travel throughout the state as needed Compensation: Starting salary of $39,722 with a range up to $52,724, depending on experience.
