DESCRIPTION:
Under limited supervision, must be mentally and physically capable of performing various complex clerical duties necessary for the effective operation of Family Court on a daily basis. Monitors child support/alimony payments paid through the Court as well as the enforcement of court orders containing arrearages. Prepares, processes and maintains legal records and documents and performs routine clerical and administrative duties. Reports to the Deputy Clerk of Court II for Family Court.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Enforces child support court orders, performing such duties as reviewing rules of delinquent accounts, setting court dates and composing rosters, issuing summonses, notifying plaintiffs and the Department of Social Services, verifying and modifying accounts, implementing wage withholding as ordered or requested, etc.

Conducts pre-trial contempt conferences; presents case backgrounds to judge in court as necessary. Prepares court orders; issues bench warrants and performs other in-court duties as assigned.

Prepares, processes, maintains, files and distributes as appropriate all related legal records and documents.

Interprets Family Court procedures and provides assistance and information to attorneys, clients and the public as required.

Performs computer data entry to record and retrieve case information and to prepare reports and correspondence.

Performs various clerical duties as necessary, including but not limited to composing and typing letters and other office communications, notarizing and certifying documents, indexing, copying, filing, faxing information, answering the telephone, processing mail, etc.

Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various documents, including case files, rules, court orders, warrants, wage withholding forms, account modifications, judgement transcripts, summonses, notices, rosters, weekly reports, memos, correspondence, etc.

Operates various office equipment and machinery in the performance of daily activities including a typewriter, computer, calculator, copier, printer, telephone, etc.

Interacts, communicates and provides assistance to various individuals and groups including immediate supervisor, Clerk of Court, co-workers, clients, attorneys, paralegals, judges, other County employees, law enforcement agencies, Department of Social Services, businesses, and the general public.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs all other related duties as assigned.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires vocational/technical diploma in paralegal studies, secretarial science, accounting or related field supplemented by one to two years of legal experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and experience. Must be a certified Notary Public and be able to type 60 words per minute with accuracy.
