Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project - Staff Attorney - Flint: Providing Legal Aid to Domestic Violence Survivors

Position: Staff Attorney for the Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project (CVLAP) in Flint, Michigan.

Experience: Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Michigan, qualified for admission by waiver, or able to take the next Michigan bar exam. Experience with issues impacting domestic violence or elder abuse survivors is preferred.

Salary: The salary for this position starts at $60,000, based on experience.

Organization: The Crime Victims Legal Assistance Project (CVLAP) is a statewide program that works in collaboration with Legal Services of Eastern Michigan, Legal Aid of Western Michigan, Legal Services of South Central Michigan, Legal Services of Northern Michigan, and Lakeshore Legal Aid. The program provides outreach and legal representation to victims of crime, with a focus on domestic violence and elder abuse survivors under the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA).

Program Description: CVLAP is a division of the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP), which has been providing civil legal aid to those in need for over 50 years. MAP's Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) has five legal aid offices in south and central Michigan, serving 13 counties. The organization's focus is on preventing homelessness, domestic violence and elder abuse, and helping individuals access health care, food, and other essential resources. MAP also manages six statewide programs serving immigrant communities, vulnerable older adults, victims of domestic violence and elder abuse, migrant and seasonal farmworkers, and providing research and training support to all legal aid advocates.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to serving low-income individuals and underserved populations, through lived or learned experience. A strong understanding of the issues impacting domestic violence or elder abuse survivors is a plus.

Benefits: In addition to a competitive salary, MAP offers a generous benefits package, including life, short and long-term disability, health, vision, dental, and flexible spending accounts. Staff members who do not require health benefits have the option to receive a $1,500 annual payout in addition to their base salary. MAP also has a generous leave policy, allowing staff to accrue three weeks of paid vacation in the first year, as well as 13 paid holidays. Eligible staff members can also participate in a 401K retirement plan with employer match after six months of employment. MAP is also a qualifying employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
