The Tax Manager - Accounting Methods and Periods will be responsible for providing tax consulting and advisory services related to the timing of revenue recognition, expense recognition, and inventory accounting. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in public accounting, with a CPA or JD, and a proven track record of project management and mentorship. The Tax Manager will also be responsible for managing teams of 2-4 professionals and collaborating with internal tax professionals and external client stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify, manage, and review projects related to tax accounting methods, including overall changes, revenue recognition, expense recognition, inventory/UNICAP/LIFO, capitalization/cost recovery, and more

• Manage delivery of projects, including calculation of 481(a) adjustments, impact on tax provisions/reserves, and IRS exam support

• Understand financial accounting (GAAP; IFRS) and stay up-to-date on current financial accounting pronouncements

• Research and write tax advice, opinion, and position memorandums

• Issue spot and pursue tax accounting method services for existing and prospective clients

• Build rapport with RSM Managers, Sr. Managers, and Partners

• Train, mentor, develop, and grow tax accounting method professionals

Qualifications:

• Minimum . or . degree or equivalent from an accredited university

• CPA or JD required

• 5+ years of experience in public accounting, with a proven track record of project management and mentorship

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

• Ability to effectively collaborate with team members and client stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters in Accounting, Tax, MBA, or JD/LLM

• 3+ years of experience working with tax accounting methods and inventory

• Experience working for a national accounting firm in a specialized practice area
