Job Overview:
A top-tier global law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join its award-winning Intellectual Property (IP) Practice Group. This role involves preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The Patent Agent will work closely with partners, providing high-quality legal services to both domestic and international clients. The position offers a hybrid work schedule and can be based in several key office locations, with opportunities to engage in diverse and advanced technical fields such as electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering.

Location:

  • Seattle, Washington

Duties:

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO
  • Perform prior art searches and conduct patentability analysis
  • Participate in IP due diligence activities
  • Build and maintain client relationships through practice development efforts
  • Prepare substantive client correspondence
  • Instruct local counsel for foreign filings and Office Actions
  • Assist in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects
  • Apply advanced technical concepts across various technology fields, focusing on electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering
  • Study and analyze scientific or technical documents to assess patentability, novelty, and inventiveness
  • Convert provisional patent applications into utility applications
  • Convert foreign applications into . applications and vice versa

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in prosecuting or examining patent applications in the electrical arts
  • Experience in patent prosecution in technology fields such as electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering
  • Ability to manage client-facing responsibilities
  • Strong organizational, writing, and research skills
  • Proficient in both written and verbal communication

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or eligible to sit for the USPTO patent agent exam

Skills:

  • Proficient in patent prosecution and technical patent analysis
  • Strong ability to apply advanced concepts in various technical fields
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
