Paralegal - Full Time Clerical Position in Annapolis, MD - Competitive Salary and Benefits Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) is looking for a dedicated and driven Paralegal to join our team in the Anne Arundel/Howard County office. As a non-profit organization, we provide life-changing civil legal assistance to low-income and marginalized individuals and communities throughout the state. With over 100 years of experience, MLA is committed to leveling the legal playing field and ensuring equal access to justice for all. As a Paralegal with MLA, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of attorneys, law graduates, law clerks, and legal assistants on a variety of cases and projects. You will assist with all aspects of casework, from initial intake to trial preparation, and have the chance to make a real impact on the lives of our clients. JOB SUMMARY As a Paralegal, you will be responsible for conducting client screenings and interviews, performing factual investigations and legal research, and drafting pleadings and correspondence. You will also have the opportunity to participate in community outreach and education, collaborating with local organizations to identify clients in need of representation. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Screen clients for eligibility and make referrals as needed - Conduct client interviews and gather relevant information - Conduct legal research and analysis - Maintain case records in LegalServer - Draft pleadings and correspondence - Participate in professional development and education opportunities - Attend outreach events in the community QUALIFICATIONS: - Proficient in computer applications such as Office 365 - Excellent research, critical thinking, writing, and communication skills - Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment - Commitment to providing high-quality legal representation for low-income and diverse clients - Willingness to travel locally and regionally in Maryland - Previous experience in nonprofit legal services is a plus - Fluency in a foreign language is highly desirable - Paralegal certification or equivalent experience preferred WORK ENVIRONMENT: You will primarily work in a general office setting, with the option for remote work and occasional in-person interactions. Some duties may also be performed in community settings. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Paralegals at MLA are paid according to our current salary scale, which is subject to annual revision through collective bargaining negotiations. Additional compensation is available for those with Bachelor's or Master's degrees and foreign language proficiency. In addition, we offer a generous benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k)-retirement plan with employer contributions, paid time off, sick leave, 14 annual paid holidays, and a hybrid work arrangement.
