Job Overview:
A well-established law firm in Durham, NC, is seeking a dedicated and experienced attorney to join its Government Law Group. This role involves providing legal counsel to towns, counties, and cities across the region on various local government matters. The ideal candidate has a strong background in litigation, municipal law, or public sector legal practice.

Duties:

  • Provide legal support to municipalities and government agencies on a range of issues.
  • Represent local governments in Juvenile & Domestic Relations, General District, and Circuit Courts.
  • Advise on policy matters, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Draft legal documents, including contracts, ordinances, and resolutions.
  • Attend and participate in government meetings and hearings.
  • Collaborate with officials, staff, and external stakeholders on legal strategies.
  • Conduct legal research to support case preparation and decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in Virginia.
  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation or in-house legal experience with localities or the Department of Social Services.
  • Strong client service and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to travel within Virginia for meetings and court appearances.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in Virginia.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience handling government-related legal matters.
