Fred Smith Company is currently searching for an experienced Paralegal for our Legal Team. We are a self-perform heavy civil contractor working in North Carolina. Pay will be commensurate with experience; all employees are eligible after 90 days for benefits such as health, dental and vision insurance and paid time off. This position is 100% on site. It is not remote or hybrid.

Requirements:

Provide management with efficient legal administrative support with business issues, policies, rules and regulations of the construction industry
Assist with professionally drafting legal documents, agreements and contracts pertaining to the business of the company
Assist with the review and revising of contractual agreements to ensure conformance with Company policies and risk tolerances
Serve as one of the Company’s Equal Employment Opportunity (“EEO”) Officers
Assist with conducting EEO training to employees
Assist with conducting EEO investigations
Assist with ensuring that all documents and proposals of the company are strictly in compliance with the rules and regulations issued by governing agencies
Assist with preserving and prosecuting claims of the company
Assist with defending the company against any and all asserted claims
Provide administrative support regarding legal matters to all departments on a variety of legal issues, including but not limited to construction, insurance, regulatory, collection and employment issues
Multi-task in a diverse and fast paced environment
Interact with vendors, clients, and staff in a professional, courteous, and appropriate manner
Assist with reviewing and revising lien releases
Process mail
Process and code legal expense invoices for prompt payment
Assist with processing and submitting environmental permit applications
Execute special projects as directed by the Vice President of Legal Affairs

Eligibility Criteria:

High school diploma or equivalent plus Paralegal degree or certification from an American Bar Association approved program
Minimum of 3 years previous experience of related paralegal, legal assistant or legal support services in a law firm or in-house legal department
Previous experience in the construction industry (preferred, not required)
Bilingual – read/write both English & Spanish fluently (preferred, not required)
