The Opportunity - Seeking a Senior Patent Paralegal for the Plymouth, MN location. Responsible for providing legal services, resolving legal matters, and managing legal risks for the corporation.

What You'll Work On:

- Identifying and proposing solutions for moderately complex legal issues
- Independently resolving routine to complex legal matters with minimal supervision
- Assisting in resolving complex legal issues on projects involving multiple disciplines within the Legal Division and/or multiple functional areas or divisions within Abbott
- Possessing solid knowledge of Abbott's businesses and staying updated on changes in laws
- Representing Abbott externally to customers, suppliers, competitors, opposing counsel, or government agencies
- Helping select and/or direct the work of outside counsel, outside paralegals, contractors, and vendors
- Conducting Patent Governance meetings and recording minutes and decisions
- Performing complex queries and analysis in the patent database
- Reviewing and negotiating standard agreements and supporting complex legal projects
- Coaching and directing assigned support staff and serving as a role model for Paralegals and Legal Assistants
- Advising legal department managers of critical project developments
- Operating within budget and developing estimates for outside counsel fees
- Demonstrating strong leadership competencies and considered as a potential successor to the Paralegal Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree and/or relevant legal education (Paralegal certificate)
- 4-7 years of relevant experience
- Proficient in area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in legal, medical, or scientific field.
