Staff Attorney for Veterans Advocacy Project TRLA Full-time Posted 1/12/2024

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is seeking a dedicated and motivated staff attorney to join our Veterans Advocacy Project. This full-time position will provide extended civil services to low-income veterans and their families in a wide range of legal matters. The ideal candidate will have experience working with veterans and community services, as well as a commitment to serving those in need.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Evaluate clients' claims and assess civil legal remedies
- Provide direct representation to clients in all stages of litigation and advocacy
- Counsel individuals seeking civil legal assistance
- Establish and maintain relationships with community partners to ensure integrated services and address systemic barriers facing veterans
- Support civil legal services for veterans throughout the 68-county TRLA service area
- Participate, organize, and lead education and outreach efforts to raise awareness about legal issues faced by low-income veterans and their families

Qualifications and Preferences:

- JD from accredited university
- Licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take the next available Texas bar exam
- Dedication to and experience in serving low-income populations
- Experience working with veterans and community services
- Fluent in English and Spanish, written and spoken

Salary and Benefits:

- Salary commensurate with experience
- Excellent fringe benefits package, including law school loan repayment, paid leave, healthcare insurance, retirement plan, and training & travel stipends
