Staff Attorney - Hotline for Older Iowans at Iowa Legal Aid

Position: Iowa Legal Aid is seeking a Staff Attorney for their Legal Hotline for Older Iowans program.

Background:

- Founded in 1977, Iowa Legal Aid serves clients in all 99 Iowa counties.
- Through free legal assistance and community legal education, Iowa Legal Aid brings hope, dignity, and justice to low-income and other vulnerable Iowans.
- Prioritizes work involving housing, domestic violence, income maintenance, health care, individual rights, and consumer issues.

Legal Hotline for Older Iowans:

- A prevention and early intervention program.
- Provides free legal advice, brief services, and referrals to Iowans age 60 and older.
- Aims to help older Iowans prevent and resolve legal problems, avoid victimization, and remain independent.

Qualifications:

- Must be a graduate of law school and licensed to practice law in Iowa.
- Prior experience in the practice of law or working with poverty law issues preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in poverty law and commitment to providing legal services to low-income individuals.
- Bilingual skills are encouraged.

Location:

- Strong preference for applicants available to work in Des Moines or Iowa City.

Salary/Benefits:

- Entry level salary is $56,500.
- Non-entry level salaries dependent on experience.
