Paralegal - Tenants' Right to Counsel Project (TRCP) at Maryland Legal Aid: Salary, Job Title, and Experience Information JOB TITLE: Paralegal - Tenants' Right to Counsel Project (TRCP) SALARY RANGE: $50, - $88, Annually EXPERIENCE: Admitted attorneys or recent bar-exam takers preferred JOB SUMMARY: - MLA provides life-changing civil legal assistance to eligible residents in every part of Maryland. - The Tenants' Right to Counsel Project (TRCP) is seeking a paralegal for their Cecil/Harford office in Bel Air, MD. - This position offers potential advancement to case-handling responsibilities and prioritizes training and professional development. - TRCP is dedicated to ensuring legal representation for all Marylanders facing eviction or forced displacement. - Housing insecurity was already prevalent in Maryland before the COVID-19 pandemic, making MLA's legal services more critical than ever. - TRCP staff attorneys work at the front line of Maryland's housing justice movement, providing representation, appeals, community outreach, and policy work. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist attorneys in all aspects of representation in eviction cases and administrative hearings regarding housing subsidies. - Participate in client intake and maintain case records. - Attend trainings and programs for professional development. - Essential job functions subject to reasonable accommodation. QUALIFICATIONS: - Computer proficiency, including web-based applications and Microsoft Office. - Excellent communication, research, critical thinking, and writing skills. - Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Ability to provide quality legal advocacy for low-income, diverse clients. - Knowledge of legal research software and interest in nonprofit legal services is a plus. - Spanish language proficiency is desirable. WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Work is typically performed in an office setting with in-person and virtual interactions. - Some work may be performed in community settings.
