Key Responsibilities and Duties

Draft and prosecute patent applications in chemical engineering or chemistry
Conduct patentability, validity, and freedom to operate opinions
Perform due diligence in connection with business transactions
Counsel clients on intellectual property matters
Participate in business development initiatives
Manage a docket of patent prosecution and counseling matters
Supervise and train junior associates and patent agents
Build and maintain relationships with clients
Travel to client sites and other DLA Piper offices as needed


Qualifications

2-4 years of patent prosecution experience
Admission to the USPTO
Strong academic background from a nationally recognized school
Experience in a large or mid-sized law firm preferred
Chemical engineering or chemistry degree
Licensed to practice in the state in which they are officed
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Strong client service orientation


Salary Information

Salary range: $100,000 – $375,000 per year
Compensation dependent upon factors such as geographic market, skills, education, experience, and qualifications
