Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Supervising Attorney for their Housing and Consumer Law Unit in the Baltimore City office. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $96, to $110, annually. MLA is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to equity, justice, and inclusion.

Job Summary:

- Full-time Supervising Attorney for the Housing and Consumer Law Unit in Baltimore City.
- Responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising the unit's work.
- Handles a diverse range of housing and consumer law matters.
- Emphasis on litigation in State Courts and the Federal Bankruptcy Court.
- Must be able to handle significant demands of the position.
- Will also carry a case load.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Plan and assign legal work for the unit in coordination with the chief.
- Identify systemic issues and develop strategies to address them.
- Supervise and support the work of staff and advocates.
- Monitor and supervise case handling to ensure quality representation.
- Evaluate staff performance and provide guidance for improvement.
- Guide professional development and address training needs.
- Assist with timekeeping and grant-reporting obligations.
- Encourage staff engagement with the community through outreach and education.
- Handle personnel matters and assist with hiring efforts.
- Assist with data collection, grant reporting, and administrative requirements.
- Fill in for the chief and assume their duties when absent.
- Support local implementation of Access to Counsel in Evictions efforts.
- Participate in client intake and community outreach initiatives.
- Represent and defend clients in Baltimore City District and Circuit Court and Federal Bankruptcy Court.
- Maintain case records in Legal Server case management system.
- Continue professional development and education.
- Support MLA's strategic plan in all aspects of office's work.
- Represent MLA in inter-agency workgroups, task forces, and ad hoc bodies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Admitted to practice in the State of Maryland or eligible for admission.
- . degree from an accredited law school.
- 5+ years of extensive experience in landlord tenant, public and subsidized housing, and consumer law.
- Knowledge of civil law, judicial procedures, and rules of evidence.
- Proficient in using computers and web-based applications.
- Excellent research, critical thinking, writing, and communication skills.
- Self-starter with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to provide quality legal advocacy for low-income and diverse clients.
- Willingness to travel locally and regionally in Maryland.
- Knowledge of Westlaw Edge or other legal research software is a plus.
- Prior experience or interest in public-interest litigation or nonprofit legal services is a plus.

Work Environment:

- Work is typically performed in a general office setting with regular interaction via telephone, videoconference, and email.
- Some work may be performed in community settings.
