Job Description

The Legal Aid Society is seeking a Director of Economic Equities Project to join their Civil Practice team. This individual should have a minimum of five years of legal practice with a specialization in consumer law. The Director will be responsible for supervising staff attorneys, paralegals, and volunteers in the Consumer Law Project, as well as overseeing the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, Foreclosure Prevention and Home Equity Preservation Project, and Community Development Project. The Director will also be responsible for representing clients in State and federal administrative and court proceedings, and developing impact and/or affirmative litigation. The Director will work closely with community-based organizations, advocates, government agencies, and elected officials to advocate for the rights of lower income New Yorkers in matters of consumer law. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to public interest law and civil legal services, as well as experience in policy advocacy and administrative reform. Admission to the NYS Bar is required, and supervisory and management experience is preferred. The salary for this role is $148,960, and the deadline to apply is May 3, 2024 at 3:00 PM EST.
