Internship Paralegal Student (Fall):

- The New Jersey Office of the Public Defender (NJOPD) offers a hands-on experience for paralegal students in providing legal representation to indigent individuals.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis between June 15th and July 31st for the Fall internship program.
- Interns have the opportunity to work with attorneys, investigators, and staff in various practice areas, including criminal defense, parental representation, mental health advocacy, and more.
- Students gain real-world experience in investigations, client communication, research and writing, trial preparation and advocacy.
- The NJOPD also offers internship opportunities for college juniors and seniors, graduate students, and those interested in specialized units such as Recovery Court and Mental Health Advocacy.
- Internship applications must include a cover letter explaining the reason for applying, practice area(s) of interest, geographic preference, and availability.
- All applicants must undergo an interview, complete necessary paperwork, and be approved before being offered an internship with the NJOPD.

Internship Opportunities with NJOPD:

- Investigator interns assist NJOPD investigators, attorneys, and staff with tasks such as locating and interviewing witnesses, serving subpoenas, and conducting field investigations.
- Graduate students in fields such as social work can apply to intern in specialized units, including Recovery Court and Mental Health Advocacy.
- The NJOPD also offers internship opportunities for paralegal students.
- Interns have the opportunity to attend court proceedings and training programs.
