Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Land Use / Municipal Attorney to join its leading Commercial Real Estate practice. Duties:
- Assist clients with a broad range of complex land use, zoning, and permitting matters
- Provide legal counsel on development projects and municipal issues
- Handle quasi-judicial and municipal matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to land use and development
- Serve as counsel to municipalities, as needed
- Represent clients in hearings, meetings, and before government bodies or agencies
- Conduct legal research and provide analysis on evolving land use and municipal regulations
- Collaborate with colleagues on multidisciplinary real estate matters
- Develop and maintain client relationships, offering strategic legal advice
Requirements:
- 6+ years of relevant experience in land use and municipal law
- Experience in zoning, development, and permitting matters
- NC Bar admission (or ability to waive in) preferred
- Experience serving as counsel to municipalities is a plus
- Exceptional written, analytical, and verbal communication skills
- Strong academic background, including outstanding undergraduate and law school performance
- Ability to handle complex legal issues and provide clear, strategic advice
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Education:
- Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
- NC Bar admission or ability to waive in
Skills:
- Expertise in land use and municipal law, including zoning and permitting
- Strong legal research and writing abilities
- Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills
- Ability to manage client relationships and lead legal matters independently
- Knowledge of relevant state and local government regulations
