Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Land Use / Municipal Attorney to join its leading Commercial Real Estate practice. The firm offers a collaborative and collegial work environment, handling sophisticated matters at both regional and national levels. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in land use, zoning, permitting, and municipal matters, with the opportunity to assist a diverse range of clients on complex issues. Duties:

  • Assist clients with a broad range of complex land use, zoning, and permitting matters
  • Provide legal counsel on development projects and municipal issues
  • Handle quasi-judicial and municipal matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to land use and development
  • Serve as counsel to municipalities, as needed
  • Represent clients in hearings, meetings, and before government bodies or agencies
  • Conduct legal research and provide analysis on evolving land use and municipal regulations
  • Collaborate with colleagues on multidisciplinary real estate matters
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, offering strategic legal advice

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in land use and municipal law
  • Experience in zoning, development, and permitting matters
  • NC Bar admission (or ability to waive in) preferred
  • Experience serving as counsel to municipalities is a plus
  • Exceptional written, analytical, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong academic background, including outstanding undergraduate and law school performance
  • Ability to handle complex legal issues and provide clear, strategic advice
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • NC Bar admission or ability to waive in

Skills:

  • Expertise in land use and municipal law, including zoning and permitting
  • Strong legal research and writing abilities
  • Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills
  • Ability to manage client relationships and lead legal matters independently
  • Knowledge of relevant state and local government regulations
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
