Job Title: Staff Attorney - Temporary, Adolescent Intervention and Diversion (AID)

Job Description:

- Represent teenage clients aged 13-18 in criminal court and supreme court
- Work with an interdisciplinary team including Mitigation Specialists and Investigators to provide holistic advocacy for clients
- Engage in policy work to ensure clients' needs are met in school, mental health, and juvenile detention systems
- Collaborate with Juvenile Rights Practice lawyers and social workers
- Handle adolescent offender arraignments and engage in litigation to remove felony cases to family court
- Visit clients in detention, jail, and prison facilities
- Provide area-specific training to stay up-to-date on best practices
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

- New York State Bar admission
- Felony Trial certification
- Experience in mitigation and sentencing advocacy
- Interest in working with young people, families, and collateral organizations and systems
- Interest in working in an interdisciplinary team model
- Interest in area-specific training

Responsibilities:

- Represent clients aged 13-18 in criminal court and supreme court
- Engage in litigation focused on removing felony cases to family court and litigating remaining cases in Youth Part and elsewhere in Criminal and Supreme Court
- Provide holistic advocacy for clients in areas such as education, foster care, mental health, and substance use
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and other legal practitioners
- Stay up-to-date on best practices through area-specific training
