Staff Attorney Veteran Advocacy Project - Full-time position

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is seeking a dedicated and motivated staff attorney to join our Veterans Advocacy Project. This position will provide extended civil services to veterans in a variety of legal matters, including housing, probate, benefits, consumer, employment, homelessness, and family law. The ideal candidate will have experience working with low-income populations and a strong commitment to serving those in need.

This position is open to all qualified candidates with a JD from an accredited university. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take the next available Texas bar exam. Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken, is required for this role.

Responsibilities:

- Evaluate clients' claims and determine appropriate legal remedies
- Provide direct representation to clients in all stages of litigation and advocacy
- Offer counsel and assistance to individuals seeking civil legal aid
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to address systemic barriers facing veterans
- Support civil legal services for veterans throughout the 68-county TRLA service area
- Lead and participate in education and outreach efforts to raise awareness of legal issues facing low-income veterans and their families

Qualifications:

- JD from accredited university
- Licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take the next available Texas bar exam
- Experience working with low-income populations
- Experience working with veterans
- Fluent in English and Spanish, both written and spoken
