Managing Attorney - Southeast Iowa Regional Office (Ottumwa)

Iowa Legal Aid is seeking a Managing Attorney for its regional office in Ottumwa, Iowa. This role will provide critical legal assistance to low-income and vulnerable Iowans in 13 counties in southeastern Iowa.

Background:

- Founded in 1977, Iowa Legal Aid serves clients in all 99 Iowa counties through multiple offices across the state.
- Through free legal assistance and community legal education, Iowa Legal Aid brings hope, dignity, and justice to those who have nowhere else to turn.
- Prioritizing work involving housing, domestic violence, income maintenance, health care, individual rights, and consumer issues, Iowa Legal Aid attorneys appear in court frequently and serve clients out in the community.
- Iowa Legal Aid also plays a crucial role in achieving justice through impact advocacy.

Responsibilities:

- The Managing Attorney will be responsible for a variety of legal and administrative tasks, including staff development, community engagement, and supporting statewide programs.
- Preference will be given to applicants with at least three years of legal experience, supervisory experience, and a demonstrated commitment to working with low-income individuals.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collegial environment are required.
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.
- Must be licensed to practice law in Iowa or be available to take the next scheduled bar examination.
