In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of low-income New Yorkers by advocating for their right to receive essential government benefits such as Cash Assistance and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance. Join our team and help defend our community's right to these benefits, ensuring that our clients can live with dignity and maintain the diversity that defines Queens. As a Staff Attorney in the Government Benefits Practice, you will have a range of responsibilities, including representing clients in administrative hearings and affirmative litigation, engaging in policy advocacy, and conducting community education and outreach. You will also have the opportunity to work with pro bono lawyers and engage in off-site intake to ensure our clients have access to our services. This role may also require some evening hours for intake purposes. To be considered for this role, you must be admitted to the New York State Bar or have recently passed the first available bar exam. We are looking for individuals who are committed to advocating for low-income people and are willing to engage in a structural analysis of the systems impacting our clients. Excellent written, oral advocacy, and computer skills are required, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team, manage a large workload, and coordinate and collaborate with other groups and organizations. Proficiency in languages other than English, especially Spanish, is desirable but not required.
