Job Description

BDO is currently seeking a STS SALT Manager, with state and local tax experience, to join our growing State and Local Tax practice in New York, NY. This role provides an opportunity to work on a wide range of state and local tax issues and will include the following responsibilities:

- Advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives and recommending alternate courses of action
- Identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations and recognizing potential changes in tax policy
- Marketing, networking, and business development within area of expertise and specialization
- Providing SALT expertise to clients in collaboration with Core Tax Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers
- Conducting detailed reviews of tax returns and responding to notices from state taxing authorities
- Drafting tax memorandums, opinions, and other documentation on various tax issues
- Representing clients before tax authorities on contested issues
- Utilizing tax-related software and databases in completing tasks
- Providing technical client service to multi-state companies and negotiating settlements and voluntary disclosure agreements
- Preparing tax accrual workpapers and understanding and applying industry standards and firm policies
- Developing new or improved tax strategies and suggesting marketing approaches for new client acquisition

In this role, the STS SALT Manager will also have supervisory responsibilities, including:

- Supervising and reviewing the work of STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates
- Ensuring training on relevant tax software for STS SALT Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns
- Evaluating performance and providing feedback for STS SALT Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns
- Acting as a Career Advisor for STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates

Qualifications for this role include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, with a Master's degree or . preferred. Candidates should have at least five years of prior experience in state and local/multistate tax, as well as experience supervising tax professionals. A CPA certification or other relevant certification is preferred.

The salary for this position will be determined based on a candidate's qualifications, experience, and skills, with a range of $76,000 - $160,000. identifies complex situations when research is necessary providing an outline of the issue(s) and the appropriate source of research to be conducted
analyzes researched facts and the sources utilized prior to composing a detailed report of the research findings
develops relationships with in-state and out of state department of tax (dot)/department of revenue (dor) personnel

experience:
