Job Description:
- Staff Attorney position available in NYLAG's Tenants' Rights Unit (TRU)
- Passionate about defending tenants in challenging cases and using motion practice effectively
- Integral part of NYC's Right to Counsel Coalition, ensuring low-income New Yorkers facing eviction have access to legal representation
- Seeking talented lawyers or recent bar exam takers/passers who are passionate about public interest law and social justice
- Opportunity to work closely with communities facing systemic barriers to prevent eviction and homelessness

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Handle a full caseload of non-payment and holdover proceedings in Housing Court
- Conduct extensive communication with clients and negotiations with opposing counsel
- Engage in motion practice, discovery and depositions, and advocacy with outside agencies on behalf of clients
- Handle litigation before administrative agencies as necessary
- Participate in court-based intake and outreach initiatives

Qualifications:
- JD and July 2023 bar exam taker, or admission to New York Bar or recent passage of NY Bar Exam or equivalent
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and social justice
- Excellent legal research and writing skills
- Plus factors include litigation experience, fluency in another prevalent language in NYC, and at least one year of experience representing tenants in Housing Court
