ProfileAssistant County Counsel The candidate will provide legal opinions to the Board of Commissioners, elected officials, department heads and administrative staff on questions of law. Answer questions; prepare recommended interpretation outlining facts and applicable law. Attend Board of Commissioners and advisory board meetings. Provide legal advice to county boards such as Planning Commission; represent assigned departments in specific legal areas. Draft, review and approve ordinances, resolutions, formal orders, contracts, procurement documents and other legal documents prepared for signature by the Board of Commissioners and other county officials. Ensure compliance with contract law and county policy. Prosecute and defend actions and proceedings in which the county is a party. Represent county in litigation in circuit, small claims and tax court, in appeals to the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court, in federal district and bankruptcy court and before state agencies such as Land Use Board of Appeals, Department of Revenue, Employment Division, Employment Appeals Board and Bureau of Labor and Industries. Review county policies and develop procedures and regulations. Ensure policy, procedure, and regulations are consistent with the law and administratively sound. JD degree and 2 years of progressively responsible work experience as an attorney. Must be a member of the Oregon Bar Association. Experience with public records and meetings law, public procurement, condemnation and jury trial experience. Admittance to the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon is preferred.
