Summary:
Legal Aid of the District of Columbia is seeking a Staff Attorney for its Domestic Violence and Family Law Unit. The organization has been providing civil legal assistance to clients since 1932 and is committed to racial justice and equity in pursuit of its anti-poverty mission. The Staff Attorney will handle a caseload of Civil Protection Order, custody, child support, and divorce cases, as well as participate in community outreach, interview prospective clients, and engage in systemic reform efforts. The organization values diversity and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.

Responsibilities:
- Handle a caseload of Civil Protection Order, custody, child support, and divorce cases
- Participate in community outreach and interview prospective clients
- Engage in systemic reform efforts
- Work collaboratively with teams and independently
- Work out of the organization's NW office and community office in SE
- Help staff one or more of the District's two Domestic Violence Intake Centers, the Child Support Resource Center, and the Family Law Assistance Network courthouse project offices
- Some in-person work is required, both in Legal Aid's main offices and at project locations, as well as for in-person hearings

Required Skills and Experience:
- Membership or eligibility for membership in the DC bar
- Strong litigation, organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Demonstrated commitment to racial, social, and economic justice
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
- Experience in legal services preferred, ideally with a background in DV/family law
- Bilingual skills (in Spanish, Amharic, or another language prevalent in Legal Aid's client community) are strongly preferred but not required.

Salary and Benefits:
- Salary based on years of full-time legal experience
- Starting salaries range from $62,974 for an entry-level attorney to $91,676 for an attorney with 10 years of full-time legal work experience
- Two salary increases per year, depending on funding availability
- Generous benefits package including fully paid health insurance, annual discretionary retirement match, 12 paid holidays, three personal days, and generous annual and sick leave allotments.
