Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and representation to clients in the energy industry, focusing on regulatory, legislative, litigation, and transactional matters.
  • Manage and support regulatory compliance issues at both state and federal levels.
  • Represent energy companies and large industrial users in negotiations and power purchase agreements with utilities.
  • Handle litigation and regulatory proceedings related to the energy sector.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Stay current with changes in energy regulations and industry best practices.
  • Advise clients on regulatory strategies and compliance with energy laws and policies.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents and agreements related to energy transactions.
  • Participate in business development efforts, including identifying new clients and opportunities within the energy sector.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in the energy industry.
  • Proven regulatory experience in electricity, utilities, and renewables.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting clients with regulatory, legislative, litigation, and transactional matters in the energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of utility regulation at both state and federal levels.
  • Experience in representing energy companies and large industrial users in negotiations and power purchase agreements with utilities.

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in good standing.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong litigation, regulatory, and legislative skills in the energy and/or extractive industries.
