• Job Type Attorney # Staff Attorney 2 – Children and the Law The American Bar Association (ABA) is dedicated to advancing the rule of law in the United States and beyond by providing practical resources for legal professionals, conducting law school accreditation, developing model ethics codes and more. In order to uphold its commitment to service and refining the standards that guide the legal profession, the ABA is looking for a Staff Attorney 2 to join its team. The Staff Attorney 2 will be responsible for substantive legal work and may manage a grant funded project or provide substantive support to an ABA entity. This may include managing that entity, as well as being supervised by another attorney and frequently supervising more junior attorneys and/or other staff. The Staff Attorney 2 will be expected to conduct research and write speeches, memoranda, and articles, frequently for publication. ## Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities The Staff Attorney 2 will be responsible for the following functions: 1. Provide substantive advice, information, and make policy recommendations. 2. Serve as principal ABA expert on a substantive area of law or public policy. 3. Facilitate multidisciplinary convenings, build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders including persons with lived experience, medical schools, medical providers, public health, child welfare, legal and judicial, and race equity experts. 4. Design and deliver substantive content for presentations and training. 5. Contribute to writing of proposals for additional grant funding. 6. Assist with co-managing and updating project website and other communication platforms, including technical aspects and social media. 7. Give presentations and/or teach on legal and public policy issues. 8. Manage substantive/legal project aspects. 9. Oversee research, report-writing, and publication. 10. Analyze laws, regulations, court rules and policies/policy proposals; prepare memoranda of law or on public policy; provide legal counsel. 11. Research, draft, write, review and critique legislative/rule/policy or regulatory text. 12. Manage policy adoption process. 13. Secure outside funding; write grants; deal with grant makers. 14. Perform other related duties as required. ## Required Education, Qualifications, and Experience The Staff Attorney 2 must possess the following qualifications and experience: • Doctoral Degree (JD, PhD) and active bar admission in at least one jurisdiction. • At least four (4) years working in child welfare or other relevant specialized area of law. • Experience in health law, social and racial justice, grant management is a plus. • High level of skills at legal writing and research, oral and written communications, and organizational skill. • Substantial experience in policy analysis. ## Physical Requirements The Staff Attorney 2 will be required to operate in a typical office work environment. ## Extent of Travel Required in the Job The Staff Attorney 2 must be able to travel up to 20%. ## Salary The salary for this position is between $89, and $109, per year.
