Job Title: Mid-Level to Senior-Level Patent Agent

Job Location: Wilmington, DE (Remote work available with an option for in-office/hybrid)

Job Overview: A prestigious law firm is seeking an experienced mid-level to senior-level Patent Agent to join its IP Biology/Biotechnology Practice Team. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, focusing on patent prosecution, client counseling, and strategic IP management. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in biology or biotechnology along with significant experience in patent law.

Duties:

  • Provide patent counseling and strategic IP advice to clients.
  • Handle patent procurement, including preparation and prosecution of complex patent applications.
  • Manage global patent portfolios, collaborating with foreign counsel to oversee international patent filings.
  • Perform in-depth patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement/invalidity analyses for IP due diligence.
  • Work closely with inventors, technical experts, and patent portfolio managers to craft effective IP strategies.

Requirements:

  • A . or MS in a biology-related field (., molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, or biotechnology).
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in patent law, particularly in patent prosecution.
  • Active USPTO Registration
  • Strong technical understanding of biology/biotechnology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and strong analytical abilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, prioritize effectively, and adapt to evolving demands.

Education:

  • . or MS in a biology-related discipline (mandatory).

Certifications:

  • Active USPTO Registration.

Skills:

  • Patent prosecution experience, including drafting and prosecuting complex patent applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage global patent portfolios across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to consult with technical teams and clients.
  • High attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
