H1: Join Bronx Legal Services as a Staff Attorney for the Neighborhood Stabilization Project H2: Seeking Experienced Attorney for Neighborhood Stabilization Project at Bronx Legal Services Bronx Legal Services, part of Legal Services NYC, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Staff Attorney to join its Neighborhood Stabilization Project. Program Description: - Part of Legal Services NYC, the largest provider of free civil legal services in the country. - 160+ staff including attorneys, paralegals, social workers, and support staff. - Diverse and unionized office providing high-quality free legal services in areas such as foreclosure prevention, community economic development, eviction defense, and more. - Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) efforts. Position Overview: - Handle a diverse and high-volume caseload involving individual foreclosure actions, predatory lending, and deed theft cases. - Represent homeowners in ancillary proceedings in Surrogate's Court and Bankruptcy Court. - Staff weekly off-site clinic to screen distressed homeowners for assistance. - Conduct outreach and community education. - Work on community economic development assignments. - Participation in coalition meetings and lobbying efforts. - Timely inputting of case notes and record-keeping. Qualifications: - Admission to New York State Bar. - Minimum of three years of litigation experience in relevant practice areas. - Experience with motions, written discovery, depositions, and court appearances. - Commitment to social and economic justice. - Excellent analytical, research, writing, and organizational skills. - Interest in collaborating with community groups. - Background in community education and outreach. - Experience working with low-income and communities of color. - Commitment to DEIB mission. - Preferred experience in affordable housing transactions, not-for-profit organizations, and small businesses. - Knowledge of Bankruptcy and Surrogate's Court practice and procedure. - Fluency or proficiency in Spanish or other commonly spoken language in the Bronx.
