Look no further than the Access to Justice Project with LawNY® and AmeriCorps. We are currently seeking AmeriCorps Legal Assistants to join our team in Bath, NY for either a 6 month or 1 year term. As an AmeriCorps member, you will be a part of America's most preeminent volunteer service program, dedicated to addressing the legal needs of the poor and helping low-income clients access the legal system. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work with community volunteers and collaborate with local human services agencies. We offer a variety of benefits to our members, including a living allowance of $1,000 bi-weekly, aid in obtaining basic health coverage, and an educational award of $3, for 6 months or $6, for 1 year. Our members also have the opportunity to gain direct, substantive legal experience and make a critical difference for low-income and vulnerable populations. As an AmeriCorps Legal Assistant, your responsibilities will include providing intake and screening services for low-income individuals seeking civil legal assistance, recruiting and supporting volunteer lawyers and community members, and assisting staff attorneys in providing legal services to clients. You will also have the opportunity to participate in outreach and community education, as well as impact cases or projects. To be considered for this position, you should have at least two years of college or equivalent experience, and prior experience working with low-income individuals is preferred.
