Introduction:
The Legal Aid Society's Civil Practice is seeking a Supervising Attorney for their Housing Justice Tenant Defense Program in Queens. This individual will join a dedicated team of managers and staff of attorneys, supervisors, and support personnel in providing legal representation to low-income tenants in Queens. The Supervising Attorney will be responsible for the smooth and effective day-to-day operations of the program, as well as coordinating and supervising staff and providing leadership. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to public interest practice and policy and a demonstrated commitment to addressing issues of poverty and justice.

Job Description:
The Supervising Attorney will have a variety of essential duties and responsibilities, including:

- Supervising staff attorneys, paralegals, and volunteers
- Maintaining a high standard of representation and client service
- Collaborating with the Director of Housing and other teams on citywide housing practice
- Coordinating intake and responding to client, community, and staff concerns
- Analyzing legal issues and developing legal strategy
- Preparing and submitting necessary grant-reporting paperwork
- Maintaining community relationships and representing the Civil Practice in the community
- Conducting community education, training, and outreach
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Minimum of three years of legal practice preferred
- Excellent litigation skills and experience litigating individual and group cases
- Demonstrated commitment to addressing issues of poverty and justice
- Knowledge in various practice areas within civil legal services
- Excellent oral and written advocacy skills
- Supervisory, mentoring, and management experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Grant-writing and fundraising experience
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in languages other than English is desirable but not required

Salary Transparency:
The specific salary for this position will be dependent on candidate qualifications and experience. The salary range for this role is $93,085 - $154,684.

Salary and Benefits:
The Legal Aid Society offers a generous benefits package to its employees, including health insurance, paid vacation, disability and life insurance, and more. Salaries for unionized roles are governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
