The American Bar Association (ABA) is committed to service and refining the standards that guide the legal profession. ABA staff are provided multiple types of continuing education and career development opportunities. We are currently seeking a Staff Attorney 2 to join our Health and Well-being project areas.

The Staff Attorney 2 position offers an exciting opportunity to conduct substantive child welfare legal work for the Center's grant-funded projects. This position will also involve providing legal research and writing on health, well-being, and race equity issues; technical support to multidisciplinary national and state-level advisory boards; and developing materials and managing the content and technological aspects of issue-specific project websites.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

-Provide substantive advice and make policy recommendations on the cross-section of health, well-being, and race.

-Analyze laws, regulations, court rules and policies/policy proposals; prepare memoranda of law on public policy.

-Conduct research and write memoranda, articles, reports, and white papers, frequently for publication.

-Commit to promoting racial justice, inclusion, and cultural sensitivity in projects, training, writings, and policies.

-Facilitate multidisciplinary convenings, build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders including persons with lived experience, medical schools, medical providers, public health, child welfare, legal and judicial, and race equity experts. Coordinate or support member sub-groups and coordinate with external constituencies.

-Design and deliver substantive content for presentations and training.

-Contribute to writing proposals for additional grant funding.

-Assist with co-managing and updating project website and other communication platforms, including technical aspects and social media.

-Supervised by a Senior Attorney and work as a member of the health and well-being team.

-Performs other related duties as required.

Required Education, Qualifications, Experience

-JD and admission to the bar in at least one jurisdiction.

-At least four (4) years working in child welfare or other relevant specialized area of law.

-High level of skills in legal writing and research, oral and written communications, and organizational skills.

-Experience in health law, social and racial justice, and grant management is a plus.

Salary and Benefits

The ABA offers a generous benefits package that includes a competitive salary of $89, to $109,, depending on experience. We also offer 401(k), medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, health spending accounts, supplemental life and disability insurance, prepaid legal programs, and a complimentary membership to the American Bar Association, which offers additional benefits.
