Introduction:
Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is seeking a Patent Engineer or Agent to join their Intellectual Property Practice Group. This position is available in multiple offices, including Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Denver, Raleigh, and Salt Lake City. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of patent drafting and prosecution experience, with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering. Experience with video processing and codecs, as well as virtual/augmented reality and AI, is a plus. Responsibilities:
- Draft and prosecute patents
- Manage patent portfolios
- Conduct patent analysis and opinions of counsel
- Participate in IPRs
- Stay up-to-date with video coding standards
- Collaborate with colleagues and develop relationships with clients
- Communicate effectively with internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff
- Manage confidential information and sensitive situations with discretion
- Identify and analyze issues, make decisions, and initiate actions/solutions
- Adapt to changing needs and deadlines
- Maintain composure and demonstrate good judgment

Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of patent drafting and prosecution experience
- Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering preferred

Salary Information:
For Colorado applicants only, the starting salary for patent engineer and agent positions in the Denver office is $90,000. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors, including depth of experience in the practice area. Patent engineers and agents are also eligible for Michael Best's ESA bonus program, subject to its conditions and restrictions.
