Overview:
- Legal position with a focus on providing representation for immigrants in removal proceedings
- Full-time, specific term through June 30, 2024 with a possibility of renewal upon receipt of funding

Responsibilities:
- Provide legal representation to indigent unrepresented immigrants before the Elizabeth, Newark and other Immigration Courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and federal District Courts and Courts of Appeals
- Participate in meetings with government representatives, jail staff, and service providers
- Manage caseload and maintain client files in good order
- Work with AFSC's Social Worker to meet clients' social services' needs
- Engage in policy and advocacy work concerning issues raised by clients and constituents
- Conduct presentations on immigration issues
- Monitor conditions and access at detention centers and jails for use in reports and advocacy activities
- Participate in staff meetings and case reviews

Qualifications:
- required
- Minimum of one year experience with immigration law and procedures, removal defense experience preferred
- Excellent legal skills and understanding of movement lawyering principles
- Bilingual English/Spanish or English/French highly desirable
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and well-organized
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends and travel out of state
