Job Description: Mid-Level Patent Associate (Optics) at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, a full-service law firm with over 350 lawyers and technical professionals serving clients globally. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optics, Physics, or Biomedical Engineering (with an electrical or software focus) and at least 2 years of patent experience. This position can be located in multiple offices.

Responsibilities:

- Draft and prosecute patents
- Manage patent portfolios
- Conduct patent analysis and opinions of counsel
- Participate in IPRs
- Develop relationships and foster teamwork within the Firm
- Communicate effectively with internal and external clients, attorneys, and staff
- Identify and analyze issues, make decisions, and initiate solutions
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with tact and discretion

Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optics, Physics, or Biomedical Engineering (with an electrical or software focus)
- 2+ years of patent prosecution experience at a firm or in-house
- Experience with portfolio management
- Admission to the USPTO is a plus
- Experience in software and AI is a plus
- Graduate-level experience or advanced technical degree is a plus, but not required
- Ability to adapt and learn new skills as the position evolves
- Strong time management and deadline management skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information and sensitive situations with professionalism
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to be adaptable and flexible
